Democrats on Gloucester Twp. Council
Propose $1.7 Million Tax Increase for FY2010
After last year's $5.6 million tax increase,
the Corzine-Mayer Democrats are back for more
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP – At last night's Council meeting, Democrat Councilmen Orlando Mercado and Ken Garbowski introduced and seconded a proposed $1.7 million tax increase for the Fiscal Year 2010 budget.
Following Jon Corzine's lead, the Gloucester Township Democrats have come out in favor of additional tax increases, despite our economic recession making it harder for working families to make ends meet.
The Council, which has a 6-1 Democrat majority, will take up consideration of the full budget later this summer.
"For the past two years, the Democrats on Council, led by Dan Hutchison and Glen Bianchini, have backed irresponsible preliminary tax levies," said Mayor Cindy Rau-Hatton. "The record of broken promises from the Corzine-Mayer Team stretches long and wide. It is long past time we had a Council that will put people before politics and work with me as Mayor to do what is right for our town, not what they are told to do by a party boss."
